Gene description


CX3C chemokine receptor 1 (CX3CR1), also known as the fractalkine receptor or G-protein coupled receptor 13 (GPR13) , belong to the 7-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family. CX3CR1 is mainly expressed in monocytes, macrophages, DC cells, T cells, NK cells, and microglia. CX3CR1 binds the chemokine C-X3-C motif chemokine ligand 1(CX3CL1).CX3CR1/CX3CL1 mainly mediates leukocyte adhesion and migration, and plays a role in a variety of diseases, including allergic asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, enteritis, ischemic nephritis and atherosclerosis.CX3CR1 also is a coreceptor for HIV-1, and some variations in this gene lead to increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection and rapid progression to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). CX3CR1 variants have been described to modify the survival time and the progression rate of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Mutations in CX3CR1 are associated to dysplasia of the hip.

Strain specific analysis of CX3CR1 gene expression in wild type (WT) mice and B-hCX3CR1 mice by RT-PCR. 
Mouse Cx3cr1 mRNA was detectable only in bone marrow cells of WT mice (+/+). Human CX3CR1 mRNA was detectable only in homozygous B-hCX3CR1 mice (H/H) but not in WT mice (+/+).

Splenocytes were collected from wild type (WT) mice (+/+) and homozygous B-hCX3CR1 mice (H/H), and analyzed by flow cytometry with species-specific anti-CX3CR1 antibody. Mouse CX3CR1 was detectable in WT mice (+/+). Human CX3CR1 was exclusively detectable in homozygous B-hCX3CR1 mice (H/H) but not in WT mice (+/+).
